The quality of scuba diving sites at Vatulele has been one of the South Pacific’s
well-kept secrets for many years. Vatulele is the only five-star island
resort with a PADI Golden Palm dive facility, complete with two resident dive
instructors. The island is surrounded by deep water and offers twenty-two
dive sites within fifteen minutes motor boat ride. It is one of the premier
dive destinations in the region, offering daily certified courses within a cross
section of diving environments.
We offer a variety of courses: 'Resort'
courses, full 'Open Water' certification courses, and various
specialty courses. We can offer a cross-section of diving possibilities:
soft coral, hard coral and pelagics. U nderwater visibility ranges
from above average to excellent and there are few currents. The
island is surrounded by deep water with large 'drop-offs', offering
twenty-two dive sites within fifteen minutes' travel. There are
no better circumstances to take your first steps into the exhilarating
world beneath the sea.
Scuba diving is a popular activity at Vatulele, and most guests enjoy sampling it.
(If you are pregnant, suffer from asthma, or have ear problems, you would not be
able participate).
Discover scuba diving
This is a "no experience necessary" program. It will not only enable you to scuba dive under the supervision
of a certified professional, but will also enhance your snorkelling skills. A three part experience, starting with
a short briefing on how water affects our bodies, the animals you can expect to see, orientation to the dive
equipment you will be using and an explanation on the four skills you will be required to master. The next
step is gearing up in waist high water to have skills demonstrated for you to then perform. Once the
instructor is satisfied you can complete these skills with comfort and ease you will then be taken on a guided
tour of our beautiful reef at a maximum depth of 12 metres/36 feet. This is not a certifying course, but
rather a taste test for the PADI Open Water Course.
PADI Open Water Course
This is a four day certification course divided into 3 parts:
ACADEMICS: Where the student is required to read the manual provided, complete the
knowledge review at the end of each section, sit through an academic presentation
and a short quiz for each of the five medals.
CONFINED WATER: The student masters skills in shallow water.
OPEN WATER: Consists of four dives made to a maximum depth of 12 metres/36feet. Here the
student practices skills mastered in shallow water, followed by a guided tour on
our coral reef before becoming certified.
You will need a medical certificate (preferably from a doctor who specialises in dive medicine - ask your local
dive shop for the name of a doctor) and two passport photographs for your certification card.
Referral
We recommend that you consider completing your theory work at home, and then bring a "referral" with
you. As we are a PADI dive facility, you would need to complete your theory with a PADI certified
instructor/facilty. The Referral Course consists of four open water dives to a maximum depth of 12mtr/36ft
over a minimum period of 2 days. All paper work must be signed off by the instructor conducting academics
and confined water training before any open water training can commence. Must also be presented for
instructor records.
PADI Advanced Open Water Course
A maximum of two dives being made per day, this course consists of 5 dives to
be made under the supervision of a certified professional.
This course has 3 core dives: * Navigation, *Night, *Deep. The remaining
2 dives are elective.
Student is required to complete knowledge review for each of the dives. Prior to
entry of the water a short briefing is made to explain performance requirement.
