While on Nukubati you will have the opportunity to learn about and experience the ancient culture of the Fijian Islands. All of us on the island are Fijian and are from the local community. We are more than happy to have you visit our village, come to our school and attend our church services.
We offer many activities on the island that will introduce you to the Fijian Culture. Learn about our traditional medicines, about our reliance on the coconut tree, about how we hunt and gather and cook our food.
Once a week, Nukubati staff and guests sit together in the Pavilion after dinner for Kava and Meke, for the quiet sharing of a bowl, and perhaps some stories and always some music.
Nukubati is the true Fijian experience.
Massage:
The Fijian massage, called Bobo and pronounced "mbombo", is a traditional healing treatment passed down from generation to generation. Within each Fijian village, in each generation, a few certain individuals inherit the abilities and skills of bobo. On Nukubati's staff, we are fortunate to have three of these special people available to give massages.
 Meke (Dance)
The Fijian dance, or Meke, is about telling a story. Having no written history, all our history is recorded and passed down through the Meke and in the words of our chants.
 Pearl Farm
Nearby Nukubati is a small pearl farm owned and run by the women of Raviravi village as a community project. You will see how pearls are cultivated and if it's harvest time, you will have the opportunity to purchase pearls straight from the shell.
Village & School Visits
You will have the opportunity to visit the local village and school. Church services are also held on sundays and welcome guests.
Tatavu (Beach BBQ)
Tatavu is the Fijian style of beach barbeque. Seafood is cooked on a beach fire and served on a mat on the ground. We will treat you to this informal style of Fijian dining.
Lovo is the underground oven and is another way all Pacific Islanders cook their fish, meats and vegetables. You can also experience Lovo on Nukubati.
Crab & Octopus Hunting
Food gathering skills are important when the nearest shop is 50 kms away. You can learn from the experts, us. Catch an octopus for your lunch, and a crab for your dinner.
