Of all the world perhaps the South Pacific conjures up best the dream of beauty, romance and escape. These islands of the South Pacific invite us to float in their clear waters under an immense sky of blue, put on a mask and snorkel to discover a new world populated with colorful fish and beautiful reefs. Take a walk along white sand beaches, gaze at the stars, fall asleep to the sound of the ocean.

The Fiji Islands boast some of the most delightful 4 and 5 Star resorts. The culinary talents of their chefs is well know. Some of these resorts offer eclectic and enticing wine lists for the most discriminating palate. Suprisingly, several other lesser known resorts are getting in on the act and starting to make a name for themselves with their incredibly delicious menus and ever expanding wine offerings. It's good to know that mouth watering epicurian delights are not only reserved for 4 and 5 Star resorts.

You will find that Australian and New Zealand wines usually top the list. You will be pleasantly suprised, if you are unfamiliar with them, how GOOD they are. My husband and I traveled in Marlbough District on the South Island of New Zealand last year and sampled an array of wines we never heard of. Delicious! We lean toward Cabernet and Cabernet blends. New Zealand has got some sleepers waiting to be discovered. We just recently tried an Australian Shiraz (here at home), 1995 Prioprietor's Selection produced by Wolf Blass vinters. For an extremely reasonable price, we enjoyed a lush bouquet with an oak finish. We are now looking to buy a case! Of course, many of the resorts in Fiji offer fine American and French wines and champagnes. Be prepared to enjoy the variety of wines and champagnes available to you at many of Fiji's resorts.
