Bula and Happy New Years from Fiji!
 I arrived in the Fiji Islands on Christmas Eve. The plane from Hawaii was almost full coming to Fiji. Nadi International airport was buzzing with travelers coming and going! I was met by Roni with Rosies who had on a Santa hat and sang Christmas songs to me as we walked to the Rosies office to enjoy some cold water and a damp cool towel to freshen up with. Roni and Maureen walked with me to the “domestic” terminal to wait for my flight to this jewel of a Fiji Resort, Yasawa Island Resort. While we waited, we enjoyed an iced coffee (be careful, they use ice cream here!) and I booted up my computer using the wireless provided by the Coffee stand. What was missing from this picture? What many people seem to think is going on down here and that is the Military at every turn of the corner because there is a peaceful Coup in process in the Fiji Islands. There was not one police or military officer at the airport. Just so you know! Isn’t that one of the reasons that I am down here? To tell it like it is? Io! (yes in Fijian)
 The 45 minute flight out here to Yasawa Island Resort was gorgeous. You fly over the Mamanuca island group and then reach the Yasawas with their miles of perfect white sand beaches. Yasawa Island Resort has been one of Fiji Top resorts for many years. We call it a Fiji 5 Star (not world class) with hints of world class thrown in. When you go to Yasawa.com you will see that they say “where less is more”. It has one of the most stunning beaches in Fiji that you can stay at a resort on. Unfortunately the internet is also slow out here so I can’t send back pictures (email goes fine).  The Bures are huge and all Deluxe Bures have outside showers. All have hammocks and a thatched area with chase lounges near the beach for your lounging enjoyment. The food is 6+ on a scale of 1-10. Having said that they have the best wine list in Fiji (I believe) and serve the most delicious lobster you can imagine. I have had lobster/cheese omlettes 3 days in a row!
I am in one of the most gorgeous locations in all of Fiji, the Lomalagi Bure at Yasawa Island Resort. Situated at the very FAR end of the beach, all alone, the deck almost reaches the sand and the lap pool size plunge pool has been a sanctuary for me night and day! The picture that I have attached here is Sunset on Christmas from my deck here at Lomalagi (heaven). I have incredible pictures that will be posted within a few days.
Yasawa Island Resort is sold out! Why? Fiji is safe and an incredible experience that you do NOT want to miss. The people are so friendly and caring. I want you to come to Fiji soon! If you are getting this and already reserved, that is fantastic. Big corporate groups and some regular vacationers have cancelled their visits to Fiji. The fear of the “peaceful coup” is wrecking havoc on the lives of these simple beautiful people. Come and bring your family and friends.

 I am off to the Pearl South Pacific on 30Dec until 2Jan. It is said that they are the COOLEST resort in Fiji and claim (I’m going to find out) that they have the best food! They also say it will be the best New Years Party in Fiji. I’m excited!
And since I’ve never stayed there (it is in Pacific Harbor 45 minutes outside of Suva) I’m looking forward to finding out more about everything they are up to. I know they have a pro golf course that meanders in the jungle hill setting with a canal that snakes every which way. I know they have awesome diving just off shore at Beqa Lagoon. And I know it is close enough to Suva, where all the “action” is for me to....
I’ll be taking my new video recorder and flash Mic to Suva to video and interview people and military on the street. And, if I’m lucky, be granted an interview with the Commodore Bainimarama, the Coup leader and self appointed President?
